Athletes will enjoy taking in all the best sights of Townsville on this three-lap bike course, along smooth roads, with little elevation and just enough technical turns to keep racing interesting!
Cyclists will exit transition, riding on the left-hand side of the road at all times, heading towards the Strand via Isley Street & Mitchell St. The Strand and CBD riding features the most technical parts of the course, with narrowing sections of road, a few U-turns, a climb & descent on Oxley Street and technical turns through Flinders Street and the CBD.
You’ll ride pass Queensland Country Bank Stadium (twice) and then get to experience riding around the motor-racing track, which we are sure many of you haven’t had the opportunity to do before!
Riders will then head north, on the western side of Castle Hill, for 3kms of straight and flat roads, U-turning then making their way back towards the competition venue via Flinders Street and the CBD.
Once past the competition venue, athletes then head north along the stunning Cape Pallarenda Road, taking in the coastal views out towards Magnetic Island. Riders will then u-turn at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Park to head back towards the competition venue to complete each lap.
Run Course (30km)
The run course consistent of two 12km laps and one 6km lap which will have athletes taking in the stunning coastal views out to Magnetic Island on a relatively flat course with just one incline per lap which will make for some quick times. The lap-course will also allow for your spectators to cheer you on more!
Both 12km laps see athletes head out of transition to run along the shoulder of Cape Pallarenda Road, turning around before Three Mile Creek to come back along the footpath along Cape Pallarenda Road. The only incline of the course comes as you head up along the Boardwalk up towards Jezzine Barracks – but the views you have out to Magnetic Island will make it worth it! Athletes then come down through Jezzine Park to the turnaround before the heading out for the 2nd 12km lap.
For the final lap, athletes will again head out along Cape Pallarenda to Run Turn 3, located at the northern end of Rowes Bay before heading back towards the finish line.
